Abstract:

We are doing this study because we are looking for the diversity of lichens on Long Island. We hope to find many different species. Once we find the different species, barcode and identify the lichens we can use this information for even further research. Some of the questions we want to answer include: 1. How does the type of lichens we find today compare with the lichens recorded in 1968? Are there similarities or differences in the two populations? 2. What is the difference between the lichens growing on twigs and that found on tree bark?
