Abstract:

ANT CAMPAIGN: Ants have both positive and negative impacts on human health. A positive impact is that many ants eat insects that could contaminate food and crops or harm humans. A treat for ants are bed bugs which are nuisances to many household owners. Bed bugs are also very harmful because they can bite and cause humans to itch and break out. Ants also eat mosquito larvae that can transmit diseases. Ants can also be very harmful to human health. Ants that live in houses can contaminate food by leaving traces of feces behind. They can also attract other bugs inside homes and ruin houses by nesting in wood cavities of homes. Ants also bite and sting humans which could lead to anaphylactic shock and pain. Our project goal is to identify which ant species are living near us and find out how they impact human health.
