Abstract:

The primary goal of our DNA Barcode project is to compare insects, plants and fungi from the north shore (Smithtown area) and south shore (Freeport area) of Long Island. Using DNA Barcoding to study the biodiversity of these regions, we would determine if the identification of new species can be used as an indication of environmental contamination, specifically trace metals.
