Abstract:

The subject of research are macroinvertebrates, they were gathered from various locations and placed into specimen tubes to be DNA barcoded. We found specimens under rocks, logs, under bark, in the creek and along the shoreline. Macroinvertebrates that were found from this area have been freezing in alcohol for 3 weeks. Once the samples have been through the DNA barcoding, we will receive data that allows us to identify various species from the preserve through their DNA. We are expecting to be able to collect accurate statistics in regard to the numerous variety of species in the Massapequa preserve in recent years.
