Abstract:

There are many creatures and species of insects living in areas around the world; varying based on their location and habitat. This experiment is going to determine which aquatic macroinvertebrates are in and around the creek in the Massapequa Preserve approximately a half a mile away from Ames (Latitude: 40.6994 degrees N, Longitude: -73.4519 degrees W). 11 bugs were collected and stored in etherone in -20°C. They will later be grinded up at Cold Spring Harbor & will be tested with DNA barcoding.
