Abstract:

Algae play a vital role in aquatic ecosystems. These organisms are primary consumers, turning sunlight into energy; they are eaten by consumers, transferring energy up the food chain. The pH of an aquatic environment can influence the survival of the organisms present. The goal of this project is to assess the biodiversity of algae in a few local ponds in Queens based on pH differences in these ponds.
