Abstract:

The goal of our project is to identify the different species of ants that are in the Twin Lakes preserve. Being able to accurately identify different species of ants may help to conduct research in order to determine whether or not ants are a valid indicator of nitrate and nitrite concentrations in soil, which would be an indicator of nitrate and nitrite levels in our groundwater. This could be detrimental to the health of not only humans, but other organisms in our ecosystems.
