Abstract:

Hurriscane Sandy had a large impact on the plant life at Jamaica bay, leading to a wide number of species reported to have been washed away. Including bayberry, Myrica Cerifera, and a saltspray rose, Rosa Rugosa. Possibly prickly pear cacti, Opuntia humifusa. Our goal for this project is to help build a comprehensive species map of Long Island and Queens using the methodology from the Barcode Long Island Project coordinated by Cold Spring Harbor Labs and also to see if there was any adaptation to the plant life that had survived.
