Abstract:

The Southern Pine Beetle has been destroying the forests of Long Island by sucking the nutrients out of the trees and killing them. Our group is hoping to test the effects that the Southern Pine Beetle infestation has had on beetle biodiversity. We will be testing this by obtaining the beetles from Connetquot State Park from infested and uninfested areas. We will then create DNA Barcodes and through this we will be able to identify what species of beetle is in our state parks.
