Abstract:

This experiment is to find biodiversity of microscopic invertebrates in a pond at Mashomack Nature Preserve compared to a public pond called Willow Pond in Shelter Island. Willow Pond is next to a major road of shelter island, route 114 so there's a possibility that this pond has been affected by pollution, while the pond in Mashomack is preserved and couldn't have been affected because of how separated it is from the roads. The two different ponds could possibly have different organisms because some organisms would die from the pollution while others would stay, while in Mashomack all the organisms would be alive.
