Our goal is to determine whether cilantro on a molecular genetic level is more closely related to other fragrant Chinese cultural cooking herbs or to their phenotypically similar plants within the same family as cilantro. New York City is full of vibrant cultures and some of the leading cuisine in the world using lots of herbs and spices. In our project, we hope to use this method to compare the genetic similarities of cilantro to that of fragrant, aromatic herbs to plants within its own taxonomic family.
