Abstract:

The Forge River is a polluted river with poor water quality due to excess nitrogen where the biodiversity is in jeopardy. Our goals are to collect specimens, barcode them using DNA barcoding and the CO1 gene, identify the sequences, and hopefully find a novel species. We also hope to learn the process of DNA barcoding and learn how to read DNA sequences. Since this is the first time amples are being barcoded from the river, our results will contribute to establishing a baseline of biodiversity for future analysis
