Abstract:

We propose to find the species of leeches contained in Van Cortlandt Park. It is important that the biodiversity of Van Cortlandt Park is known when seeking to preserve and understand the ecosystem of the park. We have been told by Friends of Van Cortlandt Park that the species of leeches have yet to be confirmed. By collecting leeches from different locations in the park and finding their species we will be contributing to Friends of Van Cortlandt Park’s understanding of the park’s biodiversity, aiding them in preserving the park.
