The purpose of our project is to compare soil microbiomes in three areas of the Longwood High School campus in order to determine differences that may be due to the presence of pesticides and fertilizers. The three areas include the inner school campus (pesticide and fertilizer free for many years), an area bordering a golf course, and an area bordering a farm. We hope to identify differences in soil microbiomes that indicate a selective process caused by presence or absence of chemicals in area.
