In this project, aquatic macroinvertebrates are being collected. This is being done in order to measure changes in environment over time, because if the species in lake change over the course of many years the environment changes. The macroinvertebrates were collected by the large island in Argyle Lake. This location was chosen because the island attracts species of all sizes do to its ability to provide shelter. The macroinvertebrates will be identified and barcoded, which means identifying species based on their DNA band patterns. With this information the macroinvertebrates living in Argyle Lake will be measured to determine an increase or decrease in the macroinvertebrates over time.
