Abstract:

People sometimes don’t think of cities as having ecology. They think of protected areas, such as national parks, to have such diversity. Cities have more species diversity than one would expect. Urbanization has led to the transformation of natural ecosystems. Williamsburg Greenpoint population and infrastructure has been growing rapidly over the past 10 years. McCarren Park is the only park in its vicinity. This means that there will be more human presence is the same park’s area size. This process consumes natural habitats and fragments, degrades, and isolates remaining natural areas and species.
