Abstract:

Both Bush Terminal Park and Prospect Park, are field sites near our school — Sunset Park High School. By investigating the aquatic biodiversity of these two sites, our group plans to not only compare and contrast the populations of the two marine ecosystems, but to also determine the health of the two ecosystems. Our group hypothesizes that freshwater invertebrates in the two ecosystems will be evolutionarily related to each other, more closely related to each other than to saltwater invertebrates. This will be determined through barcoding the DNA of our samples.
