The overall question we aim to answer is what effects do cutting down trees have on the biodiversity within the vicinity of the trees. The locations we plan to gather samples from include Brentwood (Sisters of St. Joseph Convent), Tanglewood Preserve, Hempstead Lake State Park, and Sacred Heart Academy. By determining the differences in biodiversity of trees that are cut down and trees that are not, we hope to be able to accurately predict the types of organisms that are likely to be found based on whether or not the tree has been cut down. The organisms we hope to find include tree slugs (Limax maximus), centipedes (Chilopoda), ladybugs (Coccinellidae), spiders (Araneae), and worms (Lumbricidae). We also hope to find various kinds of plants, algae, lichens, and fungi that grow on tree stumps. We would like to bring awareness to any changes in biodiversity that occur due to the cutting down of the trees. The implications of such a connection include taking the species of a tree into ac
