Abstract:

The purpose of this experiment is to sample the invertebrate organisms, specifically insects, at Oakland Lake to observe its biodiversity. The specific post that will be examined is one of the new benches that was built in during the recent restoration process. The chosen bench will be by the entrance of the lake. This would be an interesting post to investigate biodiversity because there is high human activity in this certain area. Human activity is an important factor that will be used to assess the effects on biodiversity. Human traffic and past construction on the lake is expected to have caused a low level of biodiversity of insects in the area. To evaluate the hypothesis, samples will be collected, preserved, and put through the proper DNA barcoding process.
