Students will collect samples of plants and insects found in two locations in Valley Stream NY State Park. The first collection will be in an area that has been fenced off in order to allow for natural growth. The second site is a park area that has been mowed and replanted as a parklike lawn. Both areas border the stream. DNA samples will be extracted from all samples and analyzed. After identification of each sample by DNA Subway we will compare the biodiversity of a wild vs manipulated area.
