Abstract:

The purpose of our investigation is to study the biodiversity of plants along the wetlands of the Nissequogue River in Smithtown, New York. After identifying numerous plants from different locations along the river, we will be able to see what species flourish in different salinities. This will add to the current knowledge of tidal plants on Long Island and give us further knowledge of the biodiversity on Long Island. Knowing about tidal plants along rivers is important since they are necessary parts of many ecosystems and without them, biodiversity may be lost. The loss of biodiversity in any ecosystem can have major negative effects.
