Abstract:

In this project, we hope to show that species diversity will increase from the dry and sandy conditions of our beaches to conditioned fields with the greatest diversity adjacent to a forest, this will show the diversity of Shelter Islands ecosystems. We also hope to identify if any of these organisms are invasive. At each location our team picked we made sure each landscape was different, so that the soil of the ground was different. This allows for possible differences of the types of organisms. We will classify the diverse environments by soil type, the local plants and local ecology such as how close it is to the bay how well maintained (Fiske Field for example is highly groomed). We will use data bases such as the encyclopedia of life and local guide books to determine if the organisms we collected are invasive. We aim for our experiment to show what's really happening with the organisms (more specifically bugs) on Shelter Island. We could also discover in this experiment if these
