Abstract:

Team High Flies will be examining the biodiversity of flying insects between three different environments: shore, field, and forest. Flying insects contribute to any ecosystem by serving as a food source for other animals and decomposing waste products. By examining the barcodes of the flies of Long Island more can be learned about the role flies play in an ecosystem. Additionally, the biodiversity of flies will be compared between the three different environments to determine the characteristics of flies able to best survive near a shore, in a field, and in a forest.
