Abstract:

In this investigation, a survey of the beetle insect population will be performed at Seaman’s Neck Park in Seaford, NY. This park is located on the South Shore of Long Island, a part of South Oyster Bay. The survey will include 10 samples of soil collected along a fence line that runs from the aquatic end of the park to the deciduous area. DNA Barcoding will be performed to accurately identify the species of Beetle collected. We expect to find a large diversity of beetles, with the possibility of identifying invasive species of beetle that have been found in other areas of Nassau and Suffolk County.
