Abstract:

We gathered samples from different places near the dock of the recently constructes Forge Pond boat ramp on the Peconic River. We obtained many different types of organisms from our water. We collected specimens within 6 inches (15 cm) of a eight different pilings in the water. We also scraped algae and other growth from the piling to collect more specimens. We found many different crustaceans, mollusks, and ciliates around photosynthetic algae and plants in the water. In this study we went out to find species to barcode. We predict that we will find several different species and maybe an invasive species. We have created these thoughts based on the fact of there is several invasive species in New York that it has never fully been documented. We will be focusing on invertebrate organisms but we also have some plant samples such as small algae.
