Abstract:

The goal of studying DNA barcodes is to discover new invasive plants or animal species. DNA barcoding is important because it will not only help you speed up identification but also come to phylogenetic conclusions. Phylogenesis is an evolutionary development and the diversification of a species or of organisms, or of a particular feature of an organism (Dictionary.com). The purpose of the project is to find terrestrial species using DNA barcoding. Terrestrial species are species that live on land. We are going to Lake Hempstead to find out information about terrestrial organisms, specifically chiggers.
