Abstract:

Identifying plants throughout Long Island is a rigorous process that comes before typical medicinal uses. Intentions of this experiment are to identify naturally occurring vegetation, specifically lichen on Fire Island. We will barcode lichens from the Sunken Forest on Fire Island. The Sunken Forest is unique because it classified as a maritime holly forest. Combining the unique and unequivocal effects of the beach on the Forest is incomparable to any other ecosystem and is a recipe for diversity.
